About Us:

North Star Equine Sports Medicine is a boutique equine ambulatory veterinary practice servicing clients across the continental United States. Guided by a high standard of excellence and dedication to top level sports medicine, our vision is to provide personalized veterinary care that positions the comfort and well-being of the horse at the forefront of our partnership. Headquartered in Wellington, Florida, our team is committed to servicing our client base wherever their equine athletes may take them.

About the Role:

Our technicians are essential to the success of our team and additionally have the full support of administrative staff that help to contribute to the success of our practice. They support our veterinarians far beyond holding horses and assist specifically in the following areas in addition to horse handling:

● Managing our veterinarian’s schedules

● Client communication

● Inventory management

● Prepping horses for procedures & jogging horses for evaluations

● Radiographic Imaging

● Therapeutic Modalities (Shockwave, Therapeutic Ultrasound, Functional Electrical Stimulation)

This role is based out of the Millbrook, New York area in the summer months, and Wellington, Florida in the winter months. It is a permanent full-time role, with a generally expected workweek of approximately 50 hours.

Our Ideal Team Member:

The person we want to welcome to our team has both fundamental equine experience and a strong interest in equine sports medicine. This is the perfect opportunity to transition from a barn-based role, such as groom or manager, to an elevated role that will further develop your skillsets with horses. This is also an excellent opportunity for those interested in pursuing veterinary school, or for those that have a keen interest in the industry at the top of the sport.

What We Offer, As An Employer:

We offer unmatched, consistent veterinary exposure to high-level performance horses. We have a team of veterinarians that are committed to not only the success of their technicians, but their development and progression of skillsets.

We are an elite team that believes our staff deserve competitive compensation and merit-based bonuses. We ask our technicians to be dynamic in their availability to travel with their veterinarians, therefore we facilitate company housing for all required relocations. We believe it is critical to provide excellent health insurance, dental insurance and vision insurance with nationwide network coverage, so that any health concerns or doctors appointments can be easily facilitated wherever this job may take you.

We feel that planning for the future in an industry where it is often overlooked is important, and offer a 401K retirement plan with company contributions.

What We Require From Applicants:

A minimum of 2 years of quantifiable hands-on equine experience, with the ability to provide at least 2 equine-specific references that can speak to your qualifications.

This is a physical role, in which excellent horse handling skills and experience with varying degrees of temperament is paramount. Physical fitness is required, which we define as:

● The ability to successfully jog multiple horses multiple days in a row.

● The ability to successfully restrain and handle multiple horses multiple days in a row.

● The ability to lift 30 pounds unassisted.

● The ability to be physically mobile on work days, including standing, squatting, lifting.

We are a small team with high standards and great respect for one another, and we want our new team members to both feel welcome and motivated to contribute to the success of the practice.

What We Want to Know About You & How to Apply:

Your equine background and experience are of most interest to us. We want to see your work history and/or experience within the equine industry, and know how and if you are involved with the industry personally. For example, do you ride, compete, or spectate? Do you have a horse of your own? These are not requirements, but meant to give us an understanding of your interest in the sport.
